Albert Farnell Limited were based in Bradford, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The firm sold cars over a long period of time. For many years the firm operated out of a garage at 38 Manningham Lane, Bradford. Later they also had premises at Albert Farnell Ltd, White Cross Garage, Bradford Road, Guiseley, Leeds LS20 8NJ.

Some history

Albert Farnell Cycle Engineer

The Farnell Group was founded in 1882 by Albert Farnell as a shop selling pushbikes. He went on to stock the first motorised Rover pedal cycles and in 1904 built an ancestor of the first Rover car. Vertu Motors acquired the business in 2013. (1)

The firm, which was started in Bradford, moved its head office to Guiseley when the new dealership was built in 1984. The business was taken over by the Sunwin Group, a CO-OP enterprise in the year 2000. (2)

Herts Motors (St Albans) Ltd - Triumph car dealers 93 part 3

This is a follow up to my earlier general post about Herts Motors (St Albans) Ltd.  Part 2 was based an original article that first appeared in the Standard Triumph Review December 1964 and was about the building of their new premises.

 Party Invite

 

Herts Motors (St. Albans) Ltd were distributor responsible for supplying Standard Triumph cars to area dealers.  I have recently been sent a Party Invite sent out in 1957 for a party to be held on Friday November 2nd 1957. This document was found amongst a collection of old photos and I am grateful to Neil Emson for sending it to me.

Moortown Motors Limited of Leeds - Triumph Car Dealer 35B

This brief post is about Moortown Motors Limited who were based in Leeds UK.  They sold and serviced Standard based motor caravans. 

Moortown Motors Limited were a VW garage who built motor caravans based on the VW bus body.

1962. Interior view of Moortown Motors Ltd., situated on Regent Street by the corner with Skinner Lane. Moortown Motors were concessionaires for Volkswagen and were part of the Arnold G. Wilson group of companies at the time. The company painted parts and body shells and claimed to have one of the only two plants in the UK that could reproduce a factory finish. Going, going gone

The building that was Cowler's Central Garage have been demolished and the site is now residential.

The garage has been replaced by a row of flats.

I have a record of the business as being listed as Triumph dealer for many years from sometime before October 1955 through until sometime after May 1975.
  
In April 1979 they are  listed as a Leycare Service outlet but not as a new car dealer.

In March 1988 they are listed as an AustinRover service centre. 

In May 1991 they are listed as an Rover Group service centre.
