Oasis Garage of Southend-on-Sea - Triumph car dealer 57

Oasis Garage of 654-662 Sutton Road, Prittlewell, Southend-On-Sea, Essex are the feature business in this post in my series about Triumph car dealers.

Oasis Garage Ltd traded for many years from their site at 654-662 Sutton Road, Prittlewell Southend-On-Sea Essex.  I have them listed as a Standard Triumph car dealer for a period.  After losing the Triumph franchise they sold various other brands of cars including Datsun and Colt/Mitsubishi.

I believe that this is what has become of the site that was Oasis Garage. Behind the cars I can see doors for flats at 452a and 454a Sutton Road.

I was contacted by Adrian via facebook on Friday 2 April 2021 about the location of the garage building.

Hi Steve. I’ve stumbled across your Vitessesteve blog page regarding the Oasis Garage in Southend. The picture you show from google in 2009 for the current site as a car sales is incorrect. This is the Royston Garage at approx. 452 Sutton Road. The Oasis Garage was at 654 Sutton Road (from the advert) which is much further along and immediately adjacent to Southend Crematorium. It is still a car sales and car was now although the original buildings have been removed. Prior to the Oasis Garage moving to Sutton Road it was on the corner of Southchurch Road and Belle Vue Road which is now a Sainsbury’s Local I am familiar with the garage as it was started by my grandfather and his. Unfortunately my knowledge of the garage and it’s history is not vast. I believe it was started as a motorcycle repairers soon after the war and progressed from there. The family sold the garage in the mid 1980’s. Should you be interested in more information regarding the garage I can ask my father if he would be prepared to pride some more details. He worked at the garage from around the mid 1950s until its sale. Regards Adrian.

from March 1972 there are dealers listed for Southend-on-Sea but in Westcliff-on-Sea businesses such as Chalkwell Motors Co Ltd, 684/686 London Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 9HH  were available.
